Our History
Dickey Brothers Memorial Funeral Home was established by Mr. Marvin M. Dickey, Sr., December 19, 1959. This funeral home began its humble beginning when Mr. Dickey entered into partnership with Mr. C. R. Brown of Picayune, MS which was originally located on Division Street. Initially the partnership with Dickey and Brown began the Brown S. Mortuary, which afterwards, the partnership was dissolved which Mr. Dickey founded Dickey Brothers Funeral Home.
Competing in the funeral business was very challenging during the early 1960’s. Special thanks are extended to Mr. Jerry O’Keefe, Sr., owner of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral of the Gulf Coast, who provided Mr. Dickey advice to invest and contract with burial insurance policies with the State Department of Insurance. Mr. Dickey obtained the necessary permits and license to write and sell burial policies, which became a success to those families along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Stone, George and Greene Counties. With the increase demands for additional funeral services in the Wiggins-Stone County, Mr. Kernevis C. Chambers entered into a partnership with Mr. Dickey, which led to change the name to Dickey Brothers-Chambers Brothers Funeral Home.
In July 2003, Mr. Marvin Dickey passed from these mundane shores. Dickey Brothers Chambers Brothers experience tremendous setback. With the passing of Mr. Dickey, Dickey Brothers merge with Rev. Eddie Hartwell, which partnership ended in 2005 during the rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina. Today, after 60 years in business, the legacy and the spirit of Mr. Marvin Dickey, Sr. still exist to helping those families cope with the most grief stricken bereavement that they will undergo. Ms. Pamela Dickey, eldest daughter and President of the reestablished business of Dickey Brothers Memorial Funeral Home continues to serve in helping families receive the most ethnical, dedicated and professional service afforded to them.
